Thank you for updating the status, Mr. Night..
Regrettably, since the issue still persists after all traces of AVG has been removed from your computer, we'd like to inform you that this issue is not being caused by AVG.
For further assistance in this regard, we'd recommend that you either contact your system manufacturer or a local technician directly.
Thank you for understanding in advance!
Dear Mr Night, Midhun Aloor and/or Dinesh Krishnan,
Last week also I did install AVG Antivirus and my external harddrive ceased to work. Now it is unrecognisable on any of the different computers I've tried and indeed it happened right after installing the software. Also Windows Explorer crashes or lags vigurously when I plug it in now, also on other computers.
My dear community, please save my sweet soul since everything I've got is on this drive and I was planning on making a second backup but thought it was wise to first install AVG Antivirus to prevent anything from happening to the files. The irony. Currently I do not have any of the files saved anywhere else, neither on my pc itself (since it was an office laptop). Please, please help!
Kind regards,
Abe

Hello Night.
Thank you for contacting AVG.
We apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.
Sometimes, the network/external devices might be unavailable, if the required firewall settings are not modified.
Please follow the steps in this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=AVG-Antivirus-Enhanced-Firewall-System-Rules&q=system+rules&supportType=home) to modify the 1st two system rules (Allow windows file & printer sharing, and remote desktop connections)
& check if it helps.
Thank you.

We're sorry to hear that, Mr. Night.
First of all, we'd like to inform you that AVG Antivirus Free or AVG Internet Security will not block access to external hard drives.
In this case, we'd recommend that you remove any/all traces of AVG Antivirus from your computer using our designated tool, restart your computer once. Then, insert the External hard drive into an alternate USB port and check for the issue.
Refer to this article for detailed instructions to remove any/all traces of AVG Antivirus from your computer.
Thank you for understanding in advance!
I was wondering if anyone had a solution to what protocol or windows firewall is preventing me from accessing my external hard drive.
Even after uninstalling AVG Anti-Virus Free, I still cant access one of my external hard drives.
It shows up only in my "Devices" but as "Unspecified"
Seems after I activated the "Enhanced Firewall" setting something was permanently deleted I dont know about. I'm hoping that it is just some permission I can turn back on. But having no luck finding what Window protocal or firewall settings to change. Or what permission to allow.
When clicking on "Unspecified" device seems theres no drivers
My other external hard drive workin fine once I disconnected problem hard drive from Hub. Problem hard drive seem to shut off hub connection also after i turn on problem drive. And initially seem to recognize. Then whole hub gets disconnected and usb icon disappears.
Using a separate usb connection. Problem drive connects "unspecified" no driver even after searching. In Device Manager USB MASS STORAGE shows Yellow Information tag. Shows I have most recent driver. But no "drive letter" either.
We're sorry to know that.
From your message, it seems that it could be an hardware issue. Hence, the drive isn't recognized on any computer.
If you're still concerned, you can check this with the repair shop & get back to us to further investigate on this. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for your understanding.
I hear you and wish I could believe AVG had nothing to do with it…except I've had this drive working for what about 10yrs now maybe longer. Just stored new songs and uploaded little will prior Www.soundclick.com/mistakista. But the same day after I install avg and added the enhanced firewalls, all of a sudden I can't access my hard drive.
I was just hoping that maybe someone here would know what protocol avg has that would delete or block and quarantine USBSTOR and usb.inf files and how to retrieve? Is there a hidden location of quarantine items and I see none in avg file (although Ive uninstalled and reinstalled avg 2-3 times now. Hoping maybe automatically recognize my drive somehow smh)
Has anyone else had this situation and how did they figure out.
Drive does not recognize on any computer by the way. Taking to shop and further diagnostic to come
