Unable to access public wifi

Hi Abdul,

I followed the helpful instructions above on disabling the firewall. Then I tried to connect to the public network but it would not connect at all. I also followed the repair instructions just in case but it still didn't work. The public network did appear on my network list.

Any other solutions?

Thank you for taking the time to write back to us, Sammy.
I understand that you are unable to use internet when connected to private network also.
To ensure your full security, Enhanced Firewall is enabled by default. We recommend you keep Enhanced Firewall enabled at all times, unless you need to temporarily disable it for troubleshooting purposes.
I request you try disabling firewall and check if you can access the network.
To disable Enhanced Firewall temporarily:
-Open AVG AntiVirus and click the Web & Email tile on the main application screen.
-Click Open above Enhanced Firewall.0
-Click the green (ON) slider, then select a time duration to specify how long Enhanced Firewall will remain disabled.
-Click OK, stop to confirm.
The slider is red (OFF), and Enhanced Firewall is disabled for the selected time duration. To manually enable Firewall, follow steps 1-2 above, then click the red (OFF) slider so that it changes to green (ON).
If you can access internet then the issue must be with Enhanced Firewall option. We need to confirugure the Enhanced Firewall manually.
If the network name is not appear in the firewall section, then I request you repair AVG Antivirus/Internet Security application one time:

Note: When you repair your AVG application, some customized settings may return to their default configurations.
If you are still facing the issue, please let me know.
Thank you and keep us updated.

Hello Sammy,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
We understand that you are unable to use browsers while try to access internet via public Wi-Fi networks. We'll certainly check and help you out.
Every time you connect to a new network, Enhanced Firewall detects if the network is private or public, and automatically applies the relevant settings.

Public networks (such as in a cafe or airport) present a greater security risk, and are automatically marked as untrusted. Each time you connect to an untrusted network, Enhanced Firewall blocks all incoming communication and applies a higher level of security to ensure your privacy and safety.

If necessary, you can manually specify that an individual network is either trusted or untrusted by following the steps below:
-Open AVG Antivirus and select the Web & Email tile.
-Click Open above Enhanced Firewall.
–Select the Networks tab.
Click Show settings next to the relevant network, then choose one of the following options:
1) I trust this network
2) I don't trust this network
To allow select 'I trust this network'. Refer the following article for detailed steps: | AVG (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=Use-AVG-Antivirus-Enhanced-Firewall&supportType=home)
If you are still unable to access internet via Wi-Fi, or any specific error message appear, please help us with the screenshot.

I tried to access public wifi in a library using my laptop and an AVG pop-up appeared saying I was trying  to access public wifi, which is unsafe. I was unable to use my Google browser at all on other public wifi locations. I don't want to use the AVG browser, as I don't find it effective.
Please can someone advise on how I can access public wifi?
