Unable to open AVG anti virus software(free version)

Despite repeated efforts I have been unable to open my AVG anti virus software. i'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10. I have contacted the helpline but they were asking me to stump up round about £50, to sort things out. Can anyone out there give me any ideas how to proceed?
