Before restarting the computer, make sure to unplug all the USB cables (eg: Printer, Scanner, HDD) then try to reboot the computer and try pressing “Esc” or “F8” key to check whether it skips to boot screen. Angie I had the same problem as you, and tried everything. I was about to give up when I found the solution.
When my computer starts up for 2 or 3 secs the manufacturer's name comes on with the possibility of Tab or Del. I pressed Del and amazingly my welcome screen came up. I logged in and immediately deleted the AVG program causing the problem. My computer is now OK. I hope your computer gives you this Del option.
