Thanks for the reply, and the advice provided - this seems to resolve things.
I would like to ask, however, why it was necessary to run the Clear tool in safe mode - was some other piece of software blocking it, perhaps, or was there another issue? Also, if Web Tuneup is removed by deleting, does it not leave traces in the registry?
Thanks again.
Hello,
Very much as the topic says - on a Windows Vista x64 computer, I find myself unable to uninstall the above 2 products; trying to uninstall them from Control Panel, I get a message asking for confirmation, and once it is given, nothing seems to happen; using the recommended tools, AVG Remover doesn't seem to detect AV Free at all, and asks for a restart for TuneUp, after which it is still there, and nothing more happens; AVG Clear simply hangs, I have left it on for a few hours without any change.
Could someone possibly suggest a further course of action?
Thanks.

Regardless of the above, that prescribed removal process for AVG Web Tuneup did not work for me, even though it was quite involved and confusing.
I'm not a tekkie person & have mental health problems. I want rid of AVG simply & easily. WHY OH WHY trying to understand through the fog of medication, have I ended up ( I THINK) actually ended up wit more bloody programmes. I want HELP. YOU over charged me twice, refunded eventually. SO in plain English tell me what to do to get rid of everything & anythig to do with AVG.
Ran AVG Remover which got rid of AVG TuneUp but didn't even show AVG Free as an option to remove so I ran AVG Clear Tool in Safe Mode - it ran for 20 minutes and did nothing. THe only way the system will reboot is with a hard power off. Can't delete any AVG files - I get errors that I don't have access rights or that the file is in use. Can't stop the AVG Virus service. AVG is totally blocking me from being able to manage/unstall/delete anything - seems to me AVG Free is actually a virus.
I just posted a problem question but thought I would post here, as well. I cant install any other antivirus program now that i had to manually strip AVG Avast from my system. I had to do it nmanually do to not being able to install ANYTHING. I just keep getting errors about the installer being corrupt. I ran the MS installer repair tool and it could not find anything wrong. Kinda crappy!! Just saying. Wide open to any and all viruses unless I turn my laptop off… Come on!!!
ODE MY GOD…Finally a solution to get this garbage off of my computer !! yippie !! Hooray !!
Thank you very much Bala and Akash for your suggestions.
A while back I felt unsafe with McAfee as my AV solution as I kept getting wierd popups on my computer. malwarbytes found a trojan and all was well again, but since i didn't trust McAfee to protect me anymore (it's scans did not find the Trojan) I switched to AVG about 2 months ago. Well, 1st off I didn't like the UI, then there was these "nag screens" wanting me to upgrade to the paid version and I was noticing a hit on my RAM usage. So I did an uninstall, but when I went to install a different AV it kept telling me that I needed to 1st unistall AVG. I tried running Ccleaner, Wise Disk Cleaner, Unlocker, I even tried to manually remove the leftovers in C:Windows, but I could not get rid of everything ( like avgboot.exe and other avg driver files). I even tried deleting the leftovers in my registry manually with no luck.
So for the last month & a half I have had to put up with "annomallies" caused by having left over AVG files and running AVAST at the same time.
I've tried running AVG Remover, no luck getting rid of the leftovers.
But, with your suggestion about using SAFE MODE worked like a charm. Once in SAFE MODE I was able to manually remove all the leftover files in C:Windows and my Registry.
I still went and ran AVG Clear Tool and AVG Remove Tool afterwards and now everything is gone and my lappy is running great again.
Thanks again and I hope you that celebrate, have a Great christmas and an even better New Year.
Cheers!!!

I understand your concern. Please do not worry, making a random changes will have some problem. However, when we change the settings that are modified by AVG will not affect other computer settings or performance.
Hello Debbie,
Please be informed that you shouldn't reboot your computer in safe mode to run the AVG Clear tool. Please reboot your computer in normal mode and run the clear tool, click "No" to run AVG in safe mode. Refer this article

You are most welcome, John. Feel free to contact us for further queries regarding AVG.
Hi John,
I'm glad to know that your issue has been resolved.
I would like to inform you that the AVG Clear sometimes might have some compatibility issues and hence you need to run it in Safe Mode.
Also, the AVG Web TuneUp will have traces in the registry but it is not recommended to edit the Registry.
Thanks for the information - will the registry changes not affect the machine's future performance?
