Unable to update virus definitions or software

All the devices in my home are connected to a wireless router.

In addition, I recently connected multiple PCs in my home office to each other through a switch. Initially the network menu on my taskbar identified the wired connection as "Unknown Network" with "no internet connection" … the switched network did improve file transfer speed considerably and each PC was still able to access the internet fine. But AVG was unable to download updates unless I disabled unless I go into "change adapter options" and disable Ethernet.

I recently bridged the ethernet connection to the WiFi connection. The unknown network and no internet connection massages have been replaced by "Ethernet" and "connected" but AVG still can't download updates.

Is their a way I can successfully download updates without having to disable the ethernet connection?
