Unable to update virus definitions

Hello Chris,
Let's have a look at it together.
Yes, you will be protected from viruses and infections.
Please repair your AVG Antivirus Free: https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Repair-AVG-Antivirus and check if that helps.
Provide us the version of AVG you have installed if the issue persists. Open AVG Antivirus -> Menu -> About -> check its version.

Hi Priyanga
That worked - thanks!
Is there any disadvantage to having changed the DNS as outlined in the article - rather than having the server chosen automatically?
Chris

I have AVG Free on my laptop (Windows 10). Recently, I keep getting a warning that my virus definitions are out of date but it's impossible to update them. Whenever I click 'update', it gets 'stuck' on 'checking for virus definitions'. I've left it 'working' on this for hours but no result. This looks to be a perennial problem, judging by the number of complaints about this. Is there any way I can solve the problem? Am I still covered against viruses?
Thanks.

Hi Ranjani
I've tried to repair but cannot get beyond step 4. After I click 'yes' it's impossible to get to wizard because I keep getting a message that says set up is already running and to try again later (which I have done a number of times). The version number is: 19.6.3098 (build 19,5.4444.0)
Thanks

Hello Chris,
Thank you for your efforts.
Please try change your Google DNS as mentioned in this article (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Troubleshoot-DNS) and restart your PC once.
Update Virus definitions and verify the status. Keep us informed here.
