Les, Try running the AVG remover tool to completely remove AVG.
Please click this link (http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe) to download and run the AVG Remover tool.
1. Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start removal process.
2. After the remover tool process is successfully finished, restart your computer.
3. After the restart, manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of My computer.

uninstall on windows 8 will not uninstall AVG
Have tried several times to uninstall but get "Uninstallation failes" Have tried reinstALLING avg TO TRY AND RESOLVE BUT THE REINSTALLATION FAILED as well. HELP

Use the AVG Remover more than once. After the uninstall, the tool will tell you that it cannot find an AVG product on your computer, but it has an option to "Run It Anyway." Do that. It will remove any stray files, restart your computer, and continue the uninstall. For some systems, it may restart more than once.
The AVG Remover mayleave certain files and registry entries. To find the files, do a search for AVG and then delete the results. You have to be logged on as an Administrator. If you are not comfortable going into your registry, DO NOT do it. Leaving the entries there will not harm anything.
