Uninstall AVG antivirus for mac

I downloaded a new version of AVG antivirus for mac. I tried to install it. Notice "you already have a version on your computer". I deleted the AVG app. It still thinks the earlier version is there. I didn't realise I was supposed to uninstall rather than delete the app. How can I get it to uninstall when I no longer have the app on my computer?

Hello George,

I can understand your concern. Please follow the below steps to uninstall AVG from Mac computer.

To uninstall AVG verion 2015 - Open Finder > Applications > right click on AVG AntiVirus.app > select Show package contents > open Contents folder > double click on Uninstaller.app.

AVG 2017 version:
Run uninstallation from /Library/Application Support/AVGAntivirus/components/uninstall/com.avg.uninstall.app

Unfortunately, as I stated in my question, I deleted the app from Applications so I cannot rightclick etc
That is the problem.

Hello George,

Recommend usage of those manual steps…

- Open terminal and run “kextstat | grep com.avg”. List of records will be displayed.
- For every record from previous step us the "sudo kextunload -b [RECORD NAME]" command
- Once all records from 1st step are removed, installation/update should be successful.

And remove below mentioned folders from terminal and as a root:
- /Library/Application Support/AVGAntivirus
- /Library/Application Support/com.avg.Antivirus
