Uninstall free version of AVG anti virus

Did you try both methods as mentioned in this article to uninstall AVG?

I try to quit but drop down indicates app is open yet the icon is not in the dock and I cannot force quit as cmd option esc does not list the app. I would really like to uninstall but the instructions do not relate to my Firefox screen.
