Hello Mike,
I really appreciate you helping us improve our process. But yes! we do have an additional feature to set a password to restrict access to the AVG user interface or specific program settings. Please follow the instructions in this article to set password https://help.avg.com/en/avg_free/17/settings_general.html.
If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
The other day, our server was hacked via RDP. The first thing the hacker did was simply uninstall AVG from the server before copying the CrytoLocker virus onto the C drive ready for execution.
By pure coincidence we accessed the server whilst the hacker was secure-deleting the backup drive before he was about to execute his virus. This secure-delete would have ensured we had no way at all of recovering the situation using the backup drive.
On this occasion we fortunately averted this potential disaster by unplugging the server from the network immediately with seconds to spare. We then reinstalled AVG from a USB stick and we went into the folder with the virus in it. AVG then automatically and successfully quarantined it and confirmed it was CryptoLocker.
Having gone through this experience, I now see no point in having AVG on the server if a hacker can simply uninstall it as his first task.
The program should not be able to be uninstalled without having to enter a separate password into the computer.
The AVG services all need to be locked in the on position so they can only be disabled via a separate password entered into the computer.
AVG also needs every single one of it's file locking so no file can be deleted without authorisation.
If these measures were in place in AVG then this would provide the security to the end user that even if a hacker did gain access to the server, then they could still not execute their virus as AVG would intercept it.
Considering the current situation with the latest round of attacks - the above changes to the program are absolutely imperative.
I welcome support on the above from other AVG users in the community in the hope that AVG programmers will incorporate these additional features into the next release.
Community members - please support my request by replying to this post appropriately.
AVG - please add these extra features without delay to protect your customers.
Thank you
