Uninstalling AVG Free before installing AVG Internet Security for Mac

Initially, we'd like to clarify that not all apps can be removed by dragging them to trash in MAC.
From your description, we see that there are traces of AVG on your MAC, which is causing the issue. In this regard, we'd suggest you to try the below steps to remove the previous version & let us know if it helps :
-    Open Finder
-    In menubar select Go > Go to Folder…
-    Type /Library/Application Support/ and hit the enter key
-    Locate and delete AVGAntivirus folder
-    Reboot computer and AVG should be removed.

Hi Dinesh
Thanks for your reply.  I have tried following your instructions but cannot bring up Library/Application Support.  I can locate the file in the Applicatios folder, but cannot seem to be able to delete it or move to trash as file is supposedly open.  I am obviously doing something wrong.  Hope you can help.

Have purchased AVG Internet Security for Mac but cannot install it as message is there is a version of AVG already installed.  To uninstall on a Mac the instructions are to drag to Trash, which I have tried to do but tells me it is open.  Can any one help/  thanks

If the issue persists, please mention your Mac operating system.
