I've tried to use the AVG Removal Tool to uninstall AVG protection. Once I enter "safe" mode my password does not work to log in on Windows 10. Anyone else have this issue?
Let us attempt to clarify this for you, Tim.
It isn't required to run the AVG Clear tool in safe mode. You can click on 'No', when the tool prompts to boot your computer in safe mode & continue with the uninstallation process in normal mode.
Thank you. I ran the uninstall tool in normal mode, it ran fine and deleted the AVG Protection. However when I tried to update Windows, it still found AVG. In the C: drive there was stil a file named AVG. It allowed me to delete it this time and begin updating Windows.

Tim, you can also check the version of AVG programs through Control Panel.
Please follow the below steps to check the version of AVG program in the computer.
Open Control Panel –> click Programs and Features/Programs –> locate AVG programs in the list of programs and check the version number mentioned next to it.
The new version of AVG security program is mentioned as AVG Internet Security. AVG Protection is the older version AVG program which is no longer available.

I can't open AVG to see what version is there. Some files have been deleted, I've tried to re-install but it downloads a different version, not AVG Protection, I have been able to uninstall AVG Anti-Virus.
OK, in the Control Panel I see 2016.151.8012 listed under the version. Again if I download the removal tool I can't log in under Safe Mode.
I am not trying to install AVG, I'm trying to get rid of it so I can update my Windows.
