I've tried it. After 45 minutes of waiting for the chat I had enough and moved on with my life. AVG make it not easy for a customer. Just ad some lines in the account sttings in where I can update my payment information. How hard could it be? The simplest of webshops have this function.
For me, it's very simple I just turn it around. If the charging of my old credit card fails, AVG itself wil ask me for payment.

How can I update my creditcard?

However, currently we'll be able to update the card info only while subscribing or renewing the existing license. Hence, we've suggested you to reach our billing team. Alternately, you can reach them through phone support by dialling the number depending on your region:
USA & CA: +1 925 732 4274, AU & NZ: +61 281 034 937, UK: +44 1163 668 542.
Also, if the card enabler option is available on your account, then the new card will be automatically linked & our payment gateway will be able to process the transaction.
As you informed, if the renewal doesn't go through, you'd received the notification email regarding it.
