Hello John,
Sorry to know that you have issues with updating AVG and scan.
The installation seems to be corrupted by some changes in system settings or application.
Please re-install your AVG Antivirus free version program to fix this issue.
Please download and run AVG remover tool through the following link to uninstall all the traces of AVG.

Thank you.
Todays update failed, stated to be a "General Error"
I then checked & found that the Scheduled Scan has failed to run for the last 2 days.
I ran the "Repair" function, after this the Update took place as did the scheduled scan.
But I'm interested to know what caused the failure
Im using AVG Free Version 16.131.7924, Data Base 4739/13687, also including AVG Zen version 1.113.2.50020.
Can you with this information advise what caused the failures?
Hello John,
Please be informed that the installation of the latest updates might got corrupted due to the conflict with your older updates and that might caused the issue. The repair process might have fixed the issue.
Thank you.
But my original question was Why did it fail?
Thanks, but perhaps you have misunderstood my post.
I have carried out the "Repair" function & all is now good.
Does this mean I do not have to reinstall which I find quite complicated?
