Hi Alan - I had already tried that (to no avail), but decided to try it again and I'm happy to say that for some reason, this time it worked! Computers are strange.
Many thanks - everything working nicely again, although it does still say I need to upgrade to activate my firewall. Should I be worried? Does this mean I have no firewall up and running at the moment, or is it just a newer version it's talking about?

For a couple of weeks now I am being told my Anti-Spyware software is out of date and needs updating. When I click on the AVG icon I see that 'Computer' & 'Web' have updates required and my Firewall says I need to upgrade to activate it.
The message is always the same: 'Update has detected a running installation. Complete this installation before running update'.
Following a few pointers on the AVG website I found the following info:
Severity: Error
Error code: 0xC0070652
Error message: (as above)
Additional message: MSI engine failed to initialize this package
Context: Initialization
Also from the website, I have tried pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del and trying to adjust things via the Task Manager and also via the 'options>adv settings>updates' route, but nothing has worked.
After running AVG's PC Analyzer I clicked to fix the problems it found and again received an Installation Failed message:
Sorry, we’ve experienced a problem during initialization. Please try again and if the issue persists contact customer support.
Error code (as above).
Description: Event exec_finished
I have the AVG Anti Virus (Full, 1 computer) package, valid until 18/06/16, and recently updated to Windows 10, but that was some time before this problem started occurring. The last update logged by AVG was on 10/09/15.
Can you help me please?
OK Steve, Firewall… Agreed.
