Thanks for coming back to me. I have tried repairing several times but no joy. I have uninstalled and re-installed all with the same result. I have re-installed windows and then re-installed the AVG from scratch still got the problem. Just to correct my initial post the message I get is " Update Failed A .bin file is missing " sorry for the typo!

AVG internet security 2016 keep getting update failure message A.in file missing, research tells me that this is not an uncommon issuethere are fixes on net for 2013 version but nothing recent. Tried deleting temporary update files but to no avail. help!
