Hello Matt.
We're here to help. You seem to have set a password for AVG Internet Security program to protect its settings from unauthorized access. This password should not be same as AVG MyAccount's and it can not be reset.
We'd request to delete “aswResp.dat” file located at C:\Program Data\AVG\Antivirus\aswResp.dat to resolve this issue.
/I had AVG Ultimate on my Toshiba netbook for years and tonight, it not only updated the virus definitions but also updated the AV engine to the 4/9/19 version. Only now, it demands that I enter the password to make any changes to it, including to uninstall it. I never had a password to access the functions on the AV before, but there is one now that doesn't respond to the MyAVG Account password or anything else that I can think of. How can I edit the registry to get it to forget the password and go back to having no password?

Apparently, I have to reboot in safe mode to be able to delete that file.
I was able to uninstall it, reboot and reinstall it, but PC Tune-up would not work. So, not seeing it in the ControlPanel/AddRemove Programs list, I again uninstalled AVG and reinstalled it again. PC Tune-up is still not working.
To be clear on the original problem, it was an unattended update of the AV engine. I never asked for a password nor was I ever prompted for one. AVG immediately started demanding a password in order to check any setting or to start an update.
This isn't the usual behavior of AVG program, Matt. However, we appreciate your technical knowledge & efforts in working towards fixing the issue.
Would you be so kind to let us know what happens exactly while accessing AVG TuneUp. Do you receive any error message?
If so, share us the screenshot of it for better clarity.
