Updates are not working

This shouldn't be happening with AVG.
Try (repair) of AVG Internet Security and check whether the issue persist.

Totall agree, it shouldn't behave that way.

Have tried as you suggested and rebooted…same issue.

I would request you to uninstall AVG Internet Security and re install it to resolve the issue. Click on this link for steps to uninstall AVG.

  AVG Internet Security is refusing to update on Windows 10

When the app loads a message is displayed saying 'Virus definitions out of date' (They should not be, it's set to download updates automatically).  When I click the update button, the update dialogue is presented.

The definitions update is downloaded automatically and a message is displayed saying 'Engine and definitions: Already up to date (current version 180323-4)'.

I also update the program, as the dialogue box indicates that a new version is available, dated 1/3/18 (18.2.2328).  When the program updates completes it says 'Already up to date (17.9.3040)'.

When I return to the Internet Security app the 'Virus definitions are out of date message' is still displayed.

Can you advise what to do?  My app is clearly out of date, but thinks it's up to date
