Hello Florence,
We regret for the inconvenience you are facing with updating the AVG program. We would request you to run AVG remover tool to completely remove AVG and then re install it.  
Please click this link http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to download and run the AVG Remover tool.
1. Please select the AVG products which are shown in the remover tool window and then start removal process.
2. After the remover tool process is successfully finished, restart your computer.
3. After the restart,  manually delete the AVG Remover folder in the C drive of My computer.

I have a paid AVG which expires in January.For the last week I've had an updating problem with updating antivirus and antispam. The update runs for hours and never finishes. A few days ago the link protection also said database outdated. Tried support suggestion of repair by going to hardware repair and restore. Now I have a free version, paid version cannot be found, and it says link database is outdated. Tried everything even going to restore point in July. Still nothing. I am operating on a Vista Home Premium on HP and a dial up server. This is driving me nuts. Please help!

  1. Once uninstalled download the installation file using the link : http://www.avg.com/download to reinstall your AVG program.
    5. Run the downloaded file to start the installation process.
    6. Follow the instructions on your screen.  
    7. Complete the installation and restart your computer.
