I see that you're using the older version of AVG which may cause the issue.
Please refer here (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product) to remove the traces of AVG using AVG clear and removal tools.
Proceed installing the latest version from our official website: https://www.avg.com/en-us/installation-files

When I update I get "You are not fully protected" but the "Fix now" has no effect. Additionally a virus has arrived WIN32/HERI and AVG sys its cleaned it but next day it's back again… I need to reinstall AVG rather than just update I guess? Will a reinstall keep my "exclusions" safe as hitting the "update" does not work…

Update wont remove your exceptions.
Will updating AVG (I need to as apparently it is not updating correctly) remove my "exceptions" or will they survive the reinstallation process??
