Use AVG to re-sus my elderly PC

OK, I tried this and got a familiar response, the screen shot is unwilling to atha the moment \9i can emil it?)

the download screen is showing another ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR.

*  just got "Tune up" on a laptop
*   my old PC occasionally freezes and I have to do a manual shut down
*  my old PC has browser trouble,  "ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR"
*  I want to move "tune up" over to old PC to address some of  the problems
*  how do I make a transfer if there's an unstable browser?

… thanks for sticking with me and the glitch, merry Christmas!
… old PC had used Chrome but I changed to Edge to escape the error messages
… old PC is using Edge (AVG and Avast free bug/scam protection utilities are installed, they originally came with badged browsers; I got rid of them)
… I brought AVG browser back for a spell, would it give a better outcome? When there was no successful URL call, I removed it again.
… The error messages (for all browsers all tries) include:

  • ERR_TIMED_OUT
  • ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR
  • ERR_CONNECTION_RESET
.. I understand these tend to mean there's a problem thats hard to diagnose/explain.
..  hope this is a useful response                   Nick

*  Old PC (is a Dell OptiPlex SFF core 5 8500 8 GB from ITC) runs Win 10 […]
*  AVG TuneUp subscription installed on new PC
*  I couldn’t buy Tune Up on old PC because the browser was unreliable and I did not want to lose the program (or subscription)
*  Now I have a ‘clean’ functioning copy on new PC I’d like to move it over to diagnose, cure etc the ills on old PC
      thanks

… OK, thanks, I'll try that.
… I'm not sure that Virgin will respond as quickly as you - you're ACE!
 … thanks                                        Nick

We're sorry to hear that, NJ.

Could you let us know if there are any other web browsers installed on your computer?
If yes, is this error occurring on the other browsers as well?
Awaiting your response.

Thank you for writing back to us, NJ.

Since your old PC runs on Windows 10 operating system, AVG TuneUp can be installed on it.
However, to install AVG TuneUp on your old PC, an AVG TuneUp setup file will have to be downloaded onto your old PC, using a browser.
Could you let us know if you're unable to browse the internet using a particular browser in your old PC or is this happening will all browsers?
Are there any antivirus or VPN programs installed in your old PC?
Awaiting your response.

Thank you for writing back to us, NJ.

Let's try downloading the AVG TuneUp setup file onto your old PC using Microsoft Edge and check if you run into the same error.
Please click on this link to download the AVG TuneUp setup file.
Let us know if you're able to download the setup file onto your old PC.

  Great!
The old PC has a shaky browser.
In the past I just used Chrome but about a year ago I changed over to the AVG browser, it was working well, thanks
…During a recent spike in phishing etc activity I added Avast as a back-up.  It came with a browser that always loaded at boot-up but I rarely used it
The “browser fault” occurs, in a similar manner, on Chrome, AVG and Avast browsers
(I don’t know if it matters but recently Virgin gave me a new router.  Its use may have coincided with the beginning of this problem)
I’ve covered the antivirus question, I have no VPN but if I ever get out of this “browser issue” I may give one a try
Thank you for your attention to this conundrum        Nick
