Very real disappointment with AVG

Here is a copy of an email I have just sent to the AVG support team. It concerns AVG search / Yahoo! search and is self-explanatory.

I have just installed AVG free anti-virus. As part of the process, I was lead to install some kind of programme (i.e. browser extension) which would monitor and protect my surfing experiences.

Suddenly I find you have delivered me into the hands of something called mysearch and the Yahoo! search engine... both of which I have had experience of before and neither of which produce good web-browsing experiences or are in the slightest trustworthy.

I used to use (and value) AVG.... but this sharp practice of smuggling your desired bedfellows onto my computer has really taken me aback.

In life, we can measure (and SHOULD measure) a person's trustworthiness by the small things, not the big things. A person who is dishonest in small things, who cheats in small things, will be dishonest and cheat in the large things.

For this reason, I am going to have to uninstall AVG and resort to an alternative.

I am sending you this note to express my profound disappointment in your current business practices.

ADDENDUM: The practice of smuggling undesired and uninvited guests onto a computer is an unwholesome, dishonest business practice. At the very least, AVG should have informed me what they were intending to do in advance - and given me the option to keep the door to my private property closed to AVG's current chums.

Hello John,
We apologize for the inconvenience.
It seems that you have installed AVG Web TuneUp in your computer, that will change the browser home page and search engine to AVG. We understand your concern. In this case, you can uninstall the AVG browser extension from your browser, to revert the changes done by AVG. And your old home page and search engine can be used. Or simply, you can  go to the control panel and uninstall the AVG Web TuneUp application, that will fix this issue.
Thank you.
