Hi, using AVG Internet Security Software Version: 18.5.3059. Virus definition version 180629-6
I am running this on a computer and a laptop.
When I attempt to Update Now for virus definitions I get error message: Last encounted error: Set up is already running
When I attempt to repair AVG via control panel - program change/install I get error message: Set up is already running. Please try to start the set up later.
When I attempt to uninstall AVG I get the same error message.
When I attempt to re install over the top of the existing installation it gets to 21% then fails.
Does anyone have any advice please.
Thanks and regards, Karen
I have just completed the full uninstall and reinstall for the third time since 9 July for the issue I described above - When I attempt to Update Now for virus definitions I get error message: Last encounted error: Set up is already running.
I do not believe that this is being caused by my computer as both my desktop and my laptop become affected at the same time.
I see in the forum that other people are experiencing the same error message, surely this is an AVG file problem not something specific to users computers. This is getting to be very frustrating, and is very time consuming doing the unnstall and reinstall every 2 weeks.
I am currently in the process of doing this delete and reinstall of AVG for the second time in two weeks. It is very time consuming and very frustrating. Last time both my desk top and laptop had error messages when attempting to update definitions. So far this time it is only the desk top. Are you able to give me any suggestions as to why this keeps happening. As it was both computers affected last time I do not suspect that there is a problem with my desk top. I have not had any changes to connections for well over a year so I do not understand why this continues to be an issue.
Also this time the download of the new AVG is taking a very long time to complete and I suspect it has crashed during download.
Hello Karen,
We will work together to sort this out.
Please restart your computer and then check if you are able to update AVG.
If you get any error message, please send me the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the same to assist further.

Hi Karen,
We realize this must be upsetting, but we can work together and sort this out.
We can try updating Google DNS and check the status with AVG update.
1. Press Windows and R keys together to open Run command.
2. In Run window, type as "ncpa.cpl" without the quotes and press Enter key.
3. In Network connections window, please right-click the connection you use, and select Properties.
4. Double-click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IPv4) item on the Networking tab.
5. Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window. Click OK.
6) Select Use the following DNS server addresses.
Enter below mentioned numbers:
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4.
7) Click on Apply and Ok.
Restart your PC and open AVG Internet Security interface.
Update the program and keep us informed about the status.
Hi, I have deleted a couple of duplicate replies, I forgot that they would show as pending initially. I have done a restart as suggested by Karthikeyan but the problem still exists.
I find it a bit strange that the problem is on both my desktop computer and laptop (via wifi).
Thanks for your help
Karen
You're welcome. Please feel free to contact us anytime in future if you have any queries.
Thank you,

Thank you for your reply. The download completed after a restart, thank you for the advice. I would appreciate further assistance if the issue returns for a third time and will be in touch if that happens.
Thank you for your help Karthikeyan, I appear to be back up and running now on both the desktop and the laptop.
Regards
Karen
We appreciate your efforts, Karen.
If I were you, I would feel the same. Mostly this issue will occur if update file gets corrupted and we need to determine the exact cause for it.
Please restart your device and then proceed with the installation. If the issue persists, we will escalate it to our senior team for further assistance.
