Hi Phil,

We will help you to get this issue resolved.

We request you to change the DNS settings to Google DNS and then try to update the AVG program and see if that works.

Please follow below mentioned steps to update Google DNS address:
1. Please press Windows and R key simultaneously and it opens Run command.
2. Then type "ncpa.cpl" without the quotes in it and click on OK button.
3. In Network connections window, please right-click the connection you use, and select Properties.
4. Double-click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item on the Networking tab.
5. Click Advanced and select the DNS tab. If there are any DNS server IP addresses listed there, write them down for future reference, and remove them from this window. Click OK.
6) Select Use the following DNS server addresses.
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4.
7) Click on Apply and OK.

Then update the AVG program and check with the issue.

I have AVG Antivirus Free.  Installed recently. Getting the Virus Definitions are out of date error and pressed the Update Now button. It freezes at Updating step 1/3, initializing, please wait. Doesn't move for hours

Current virus definitions is 180830-4
