Clearing the data from the app finally resolved the issue. Cache alone didn't do anything and I didn't have to force stop the app.
Thanks for the help.
Today my app started telling me the virus definitions are out of date. When I attempt to update them it says it's already up to date. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app through the app manager in settings. It is still telling me the same thing. What else can I do?
Hello, Jordan.
I regret for any inconvenience this may have caused. Could you provide a screenshot ( http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot ) of the warning message? Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions to upload the screenshot.
You could try to reset AVG app to resolve the issue. To do so, navigate to the location mentioned below.
Device Menu -> Settings -> Apps/Application Management -> AVG Antivirus -> Tap on clear cache and clear data -> Force stop the app once.

Jordan, this is a followup regarding the virus definitions out of date on AVG for Android. Our developers are aware of this and confirmed an update will be released soon with a fix. Meanwhile, I ensure your device is protected and request you to keep the auto-update of apps is enabled in Google play store. Click on this link https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/113412?hl=en for instructions to enable it if you have not already.
Once the fix is rolled out, you will get a notification and the AVG app will be updated automatically. After updating AVG app, restart your device and check for the status.
Thank you for your understanding!
