double click on AVG Internet Security icon:
screen appears with
* at the top:
message: "the virus definitions have expired" and in addition a block with "update"
* in the middle 5 blocks with side by side:
basic protection => "computer" and "web and e-mail"
full protection => "hacker attacks", "privacy" and "payment"
* at the bottom of the screen:
"last computer scan: 5 hours ago"
"computer scanning"
"virus definition: 4 hours ago"

When I click on the top of the "update virus definitions" block, a new screen with 4 updates will appear, namely:
* engine and definitions => update => up-to-date: current version 180123-2
* program => update => up-to-date: current version 17.9.3040
* engine and definitions => update => up-to-date: current version 180123-2
* program => update => up-to-date: current version 17.9.3040
clicking on OK returns to the original AVG screen with the recurring message "the virus definitions have expired" or updating the 4 elements has not produced the desired result.
QUESTION: How do I realize ... step by step ... an effective update of the expired virus definitions?
STARTING POINT: I am fully protected by AVG:
basic protection => "computer" and "web and e-mail"
full protection => "hacker attacks", "privacy" and "payment"
