Hi Spencer,
We understand your concern.
What's the status of the laptop now?
Are you able to access it or not.
And can you confirm that you need a USB from AVG to boot the windows?
Rakshith,
The Laptop is unable to boot into windows and the answer to your question is Yes I need a bootable usb stick that can not only fix the mbr which is most likely damaged but find this very dangerous virus that has ruined 3 operating system sata hard drives.
I thought I had it licked after 6 hrs of back and forth in diskpart, chkdsk, but to no avail. It has a hidden volume and no matter what I did it would creep back in.
I would appreciate any help I can get. As of Now I am having to use my wifes Chromebook which is just not the same. It also limits me as far as garnering software from sites because you cannot save files the same way on these Chromebooks.
Thank You
Spencer Malone
Thank You Spencer Malone
Spencer, this is official website for AVG forums and you are speaking with AVG representatives.
My Colleague Rakshith was trying to outline the functions on AVG Rescue Disk one of which is scanning a PC for virus when you cannot boot it.
Unfortunately, AVG Rescue disk has been discontinued now and I would request you to use a original Windows installation disk to repair or recover Windows.
Rakshith, How about providing me with a link to download onto a usb drice with what I need to fix the mbr and other infected files in Windows. That sure would help so I could boot into windows.
I am running windows 10 on a hp laptop. I started to see a directory attached to the windows called old windows, also $ windows. its also in syswow I believe.
Now I cannot boot into windows, in fact it shows no operating system. I have used diskpart, all the recovery options you can think of as well. I have used chkdsk, you name it I have done it.
This virus is so bad that I found the disk write protected. I fixed that but it gores right back to that…In cmd it says the first NTFS boot sector is unreadable or corrupt. I have formatted half a dozen older sata drives I have and every one has that virus…
After I thought I had it ready to boot into windows with a recovery drive it went to a screen like bad wallpaper from the 60's. With lines vertical and horizontal.
I need a usb stick that will not only boot windows 10 for me but with something on it to wipe out the virus. I do not care how much it costs.
When I first installed avg it found it and I erased it. It was not completely gone.
Any help I can get
Thanks
S Malone
I would be more than glad to pay for the avg usb stick recovery drive.
A rescue disk could not possibly check files on a pc that is not running. What kind of nonsense is that.
I think I need to speak with someone at AVG as I have no idea who I am speaking with.

Thank you for the confirmation, Spencer
Earlier we had the option called 'Rescue Disk'
Rescue Disk enables you to scan your PC when your system is not running.
This method significantly increases your chances of detecting and removing malware because the malware is unable to counteract.
Unfortunately we do not have option in AVG, it was discontinued long ago.
