Virus scan gets stuck on finishing

Hi,
Thanks.

I tried this.  Did the repair; which went smoothly.  Then did another scan.  This time I got as far as 65%.
Then I deleted Adobe Acrobat Reader, as I was told that the latest version was interfering with things on my husband's computer.  I did another scan and this time got to 60% with 485,000 files scanned.
However, when I looked at the scan history the number of files scanned was well over 500,000, and this number is similar to scans before the trouble started. So perhaps this is a problem with the AVG display.  Perhaps the scan is working properly.  But I would like to feel more confident about this, so does anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi Laura , I will help you with the issue, may I know which AVG program have you installed in your computer ? , please try to download the program from www.AVG.com/download and reinstall it .

When I run a scan it runs normally but doesn't finish.  The progress bar shows 100%, and it says the scan is finishing, but it never does, and the program is unresponsive.  I have to go into task manager to shut it down.  This has happened for 3 days (I run a scan every day).  It updates OK, and everything else seems to be OK.  The scan results show no viruses or problems.

Thank you.  I have AVG Internet Security 2015, current file version 2015.0.6122
Last night I uninstalled Google Chrome as it has had trouble shutting down too.  It appears to shut down normally, but on restarting the computer a bar across the top of the browser informs me that it had not shut down properly (apart from that it worked perfectly).  Anyway it is gone too, and I am now back to using Firefox.  My OS is Windows 7 Home Premium.  The programs I use a lot are always kept updated, and I scan using AVG at least one full scan a day.  I have no other antivirus software apart from Microsoft Security essentials.  As far as I know I do not visit "dubious" websites.  I am a pretty boring user, and the only user of the machine.
Hope you can help as time is draggin on and I do not feel confident enough in my antivirus software to do some of the things I would normally do.

Hello Laura. Thank you for the information. The number of scan files depends on the scan settings and the number of files and programs installed on your PC. If you do whole computer scan with additional settings then it will take more time to get completed since it is scanning each and every files of your PC. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your AVG Internet Security program once. If not please follow the below mentioned instructions:

1) First step is to use AVG Remover tool and uninstall your AVG program completely. To download AVG Remover Tool please click on the following link:For 32-bit: http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x86_2015_5501.exe
For 64-bit: http://download.avg.com/filedir/util/support/avg_remover_stf_x64_2015_5501.exe
2) Run the downloaded tool and follow the instructions displayed on your screen.

Hello Laura. That looks weird. I would request you to install the Google Chrome browser again and try scanning the AVG program again. If the issue persists please do let us know. Thank you.

  1. Your computer will be restarted automatically. After the restart, AVG Remover will finish the uninstallation.
NOTE: Once the AVG Remover Tool has done with its process. Please go to the drive where you installed this tool and look for a folder named as "AVG Remover" and I request you to delete it manually.

To download, install and activate AVG Internet Security program please follow the instructions mentioned in the following article: http://bit.ly/1DXPL5z .

Please feel free to contact us should you need any further assistance. Thank you.
