Virus Scan When Schedule Does Not Activate

Hello Dinesh -
Reporting back -  my Free AVG did the schedule scan after my computer was left ON.  It would be nice if AVG could update their software where if a schedule scan is missed, it would automatically scan when the computer is next ON.
Question –
When I do a schedule scan, my settings are All harddisks and File Types are set to “content (thorough but slow).”  Are these settings for a deep scan?
I tried to use the settings “Rootkits (full scan),” and “Scan all Files,” but it did not allow me. Why is that?

Hi Jerry,

We're glad to clarify this for you.
The computer needs to be turned on at the scheduled scan time.
If the time has surpassed, the scan will not be initiated after waking the computer. It'll be running in the next cycle (next scheduled time).
Thank you for your understanding in advance!

Hello Again –
First, I find the settings for schedule scans to be a little tricky.  The most troublesome is when I try to delete an incorrect scheduled scan parameter entry, it does not delete.  I then find I need to guess at what to click until I finally get an entry to delete.  Many times when I try to delete a scheduled scan entry, AVG creates another entry.  It drives me crazy.

Anyway, I was able to reset my Scheduled Scan Settings in the Scan Areas screen to “Rootkits (full scan).” So, these are my questions:

1. What is the highest level name for a manual virus scan setting?
2. On scheduled scans what is the name of my scan level?  Is it “Rootkits (full scan)?”
3. At what point does Rootkits (full scan) activate?  Do I need to do something?
4. Does Rootkits (full scan) activate during a scheduled scan?

I use Vista and put my PC in Sleep mode when not in use.  As I understand it, AVG will not activate a scheduled scan in Sleep mode, but after it is brought out of sleep mode it is suppose to activate at that time.  Mine does not activate.

Hello Jerry.
It is always recommended to select 'All Hard Disks' as the scan areas. Rootkits are one type of many infections.
While scheduling a scan, you can specify which type of scan (deep scan, quick scan or file/folder scan).
When you select 'All hard disks', a thorough scan is done on each and every file present on your hard disk including the scan for rootkits.

Hi Jerry,
I am sorry, the navigation path provided earlier is for the revamped version (19.8) of AVG program.
Since you use Vista, AVG Version 18.8 can be installed on your device and below are the steps to configure Rootkit scan:
- Click the gear icon next to Scan Computer on the main AVG Antivirus screen. You will find an option 'Schedule Scan', click the gear icon next to it.
- Select Scan and configure the scan parameters and scan area as 'Rootkits (full scan)'.
It will always scan for rootkits in the background and display you a result (if it detects any).
Check if you are able to run the scan and inform the status.

Hello -
You say, "This can be found under 'Detections'  in Settings."  I cannot find the word Detections.

Jerry.

Helllo -
Thanks for the clarification. I did see the drop-down menu before, but I was never sure that when I changed it, if I was changing it for a manual or schedule scan.   It just takes me a little time to know what tab to click first for whatever I want to change.  A tutorial on the sequence of tabs to click for schedule scans and how to cancel incorrect schedule scan entries would be nice.

Thanks for all of the assistance.
Regards,
Jerry

Hello
You say, “While scheduling a scan, you can specify which type of scan (deep scan, quick scan or file/folder scan).”

I can do the above comment when doing a manual scan.  However, I can’t find that option when doing a schedule scan.  It’s been my belief a schedule scan is a default  deep scan where you can’t select which type of scan to choose.
Jerry

You are most welcome, Jerry.
You can report the status at your convenient time. We are available round the clock.
Have a nice day!

Thanks Dinesh for the return.

This weekend I will try the schedule scan with the computer ON and let you know the results.

Regards,
Jerry
