VPN and NIC both show Internet Access

thanks for the response, Shawn ! So are we saying that even though my windows 10 network status and system tray show my SSID - and not the VPN - then that's normal and it does not mean i am not protected? ( as long as i have the VPN enabled and see the virtual IP ) am i correct?

hello team i have not received a response on this and we are now going on 2 weeks :frowning: . Any updates / next steps? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling AVG VPN and also tried ensuring i have the proper email account and activation code registered. My subscitption lasts until August. I cannot tell if i am being protected by my VPN or not :frowning: can you please escalate ? Happy to perform any next steps you feel would benifit… thanks in advance team !!

Hello Kel,

We will check and help you to resolve it. Could you please share the screenshot of the page (http://https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Create-screenshot) which shows both VPN and network adapter having Internet Access?

Hello Kel. Thank you for your time and your patience to communicate with AVG and I apologize for the delayed response. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team.

First and foremost, when actively using AVG Secure VPN, to be assured that your privacy is being protected. More specifically, your connection is encrypted and your location is disguised. You can easily verify this by checking and cross referencing your IP address, when connected to VPN.

More specific to your concern, from what I understand, is that you are trying to determine a Windows network status. Regrettably, some statuses in Windows, related to VPN, are not so great. Such as, for instance in my case, being connected to a wireless network, with activated VPN, and the adapter icon shown in the tray, indicates being connected by cable, as opposed to wireless.

To further troubleshoot your concern, I suggest communicating with Microsoft, as they will be able to best help you.

I trust this explanation and information help clarify your concern. Regards, Shawn

sorry for the delay team, i tried to upload images using the above link and got the error "This site can’t be reached"

Also when i click on 'Answer' in this thread and the click on the 'Image' or the paperclip icons, i get the options to upload, but all the radio buttons are greyed out. I cleared the cache and cookies from the browser( regardless of browser i user ) then restarted the browser, but the options are still greyed out. Is there another way i can upload the screenshots to you though email, etc?

Hello team ! I see an intermittent inconsistency where both my VPN and my network adapter show internet access. The VPN shows connected, but when I go into my Windows 10 network status, it shows either my SSID or the "Secure VPN OpenVPN Public network" having access to the internet. Also, when I hover over the network icon in my system tray it will show both VPN and my SSID with internet access. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the product, and checked that my product is registered to the correct email but cannot seem to adjust this. Shouldn't the network status always be showing "Secure VPN OpenVPN Public network" while connected to the VPN?

CORRECTION - need to rephrase for clarity:

So are we saying that regardless of what the Network status and system tray show  ( assuming of course that i have the VPN enabled and see the virtual IP ) then that's normal and it means my connection is still encrypted and location disguised?

Hi Kell. Again, to simply clarify my initial response to your inquiry, from my own experience, some statuses in Windows, related to VPN, are not great. More specific to the Windows related messages, you are encouraged to communicate direct with Microsoft, as they will be able to best help you.

And to reclarify, when successfully connected to AVG Secure VPN, you are protected. And to further verify this for yourself, you can simply google search, what is my IP address, and it should be the same as provided by your VPN connection.

I trust this further explanation clarifies your concern. Regards, Shawn

Hi team i have not received a response on this. While you continue to investigate are there any specifc tests i can perform that validate my VPN connection is encrypted and indeed working? If we can do that, then i wont need to bother you so much and can be safe knowing this issue is purely cosemetic ;). Please keep me updated…
