Initially, let us identify the program that causes the issue.
To do so, please disable AVG protection temporarily & then check if you're able to access websites with Secure VPN enabled.

A couple of days ago the virus protection engine updated [20.2.3116 (build 20.2.5130.566)] itself. Since then when the VPN is activated I am unable to browse in wither Chrome or Firefox. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the VPN. No change.
