VPN on - Outlook out does not work

Hi Community,  since I installed the VPN, which works fine, when sending email with Outlook, the email are not sending out.
What can I do to allow Outlook to send even when the VPN is on?  I have read that I need a Passerelle. 
not sure what this is and how to fix it.
