Web pages not accessible if running Secure VPN

Hi Harry I have the same problem, not being able to access the Officeworks site. It is very annoying.

In an answer to another VPN post I wrote:

I have the same problem [web page being inaccessible] with a small number of sites - error 406 - for example this one: https://www.officeworks.com.au/, which is a retail outlet I use a lot.

There is no option, like the Trusted networks option in Settings, that would allow the user to list Trusted web sites so this problem could be circumnavigated without turning off Secure VPN every time.

Is there any reason why AVG can't instigate this feature?

We're glad to clarify this for you.
From your message, we see that you're experiencing the geolocation restriction on the site.
We do have a feature to exclude selected server from AVG Secure VPN.
Please try the above step & let us know if it helps. For further queries, we request you to write back to us in your own post.

I did everything the referenced section suggested, but when I tried the final step (route -p -4 ...), I received the message that my status had to be elevated to carry out this command.

How do I become "elevated" in this context?

Surely all this palaver should be unnecessary for the user. Can't it be built in the AVG Secure Browser as a function in Settings?

I am logged in as me, and I am the administrator.

All this should be unnecessary for the user. I shouldn't have to go through all this rigmarole every time I come across a web site that doesn't allow access.

Can't it be built in the AVG Secure Browser as a function in Settings? Otherwise I'll abandon Secure browser; it's not that important anyway.

Hi Harry,

Thank you for writing back to us in your own post as requested. Appreciate your efforts.
From your description, it seems that the admin privileges aren't available to execute the command.
Would you be so kind to ensure us that you've logged into your administrator user account?

(1) I know there's no option at present (didn't you read my last reply?). I am requesting AVG to create that option. Without it (and considering other complaints people have), Secure Browser is just not worth the effort, so I will be unsubscribing from it.

(2) You didn't address my other question, which asks why the route command that you advised me to use doesn't work when I am logged in as administrator.

We understand your concern.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

We will consider this as a feedback and improve our program in the future updates.

Regarding the route command, please provide us the screenshot of the message to investigate further.

You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on "Answer" & then click on the "Image" [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

Keep us posted.

Thanks for trying to help, but the only solution is for AVG to add an option to exclude specific web sites from the VPN mask.

Let's not bother with the route conversation any more. It's easier simply to turn VPN off, either temporarily or (as I'm inclined to do) permanently.

Hi Brian,

We're glad to help you with this.
Please write back to us in your own post, which will reveal the email address associated with AVG.
Thank you for your understanding in advance!

Hello Harry,

We can really understand your concern. We do not have option in AVG Secure Browser to get exceptional with AVG Secure VPN program.

We request you to change the location in Secure VPN program and check whether you can access it. You can try connecting to streaming servers (locations) available in Secure VPN to check if it helps.

Thank you for your understanding.

This isn't the experience we want you to have, Harry.
Upon rechecking the steps in the provided article, it seems that the route command is mentioned incorrectly as route -p add -4 in the example part. Whereas, the steps & screenshot of command prompt shows as route -p -4 add (which is the correct command). If you reconsider, please check this once again & let us know. If issue persists, we'd suggest you to take advantage of our additional support by following the steps in the email that has been sent to you.
