Web Shiled blocks ALL https sites

So is there a solution to this problem or it was swept under the rug as noone has posted in more than 2 months? Cuz the issue is still there and it's quite annoying having to restart the PC every time it happens.

Hello Tony,

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please reinstall AVG Antivirus on your MAC device and check the status. If you face any issues, then we need to collect logs and FF version. Also, if you have included any extensions to it to escalate the case.

Hello Customer,

I understand your concern on this recent update from AVG causing browsers to https sites. Please follow the below steps and check if that fix the issue.

Firstly, it is necessary to obtain a copy of the certificate.

This can be found with Keychain Access with Keychain "login" and category "Certificates". Search for "avg". You should find "AVG trusted CA". Select it and export it from the menu bar under "File" then "Export Items…". Save it somewhere accessible.

Next, the certificate needs to be added to Firefox's certificate manager.

Open Firefox's Preferences > Privacy & Security tab. Scroll down to Security > Certificates. Open "View Certificates…". Click on "Authorities" then "Import…". Import "AVG trusted CA" and trust it to "identify websites". You can select "identify mail users" if you want.

If you face any difficulties, feel free to contact us.

Um…no.  You are blocking EVERY https site I've attempted to go to.  I've tried enough that I feel safe in concluding that you are blocking ALL certificates…EVEN YOUR OWN.  You actually expect me to import certs for every site I wan to visit?  That's your workaround?  …REALLY?

If you can't work with Firefox's code to trust even your own certificate chain then you have clearly done something wrong.  Avast is working great and doesn't break my browser.  See ya.

I am having the same issue with Firefox. Completely unusable on any HTTPS site.

"Your connection is not secure
The owner of accounts.google.com has configured their website improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this website.
This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox may only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.
"

On looking at the certificate, it is blocked by AVG.

I am on Windows 10 Home, version 1803, Build 17134.1

AVG version 18.3.3051.

Clearly this has been happening for some time. Guys, can we have a fix please?

Hello,
I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused. We have released an AVG Antivirus new update (18.2) yesterday, so I request you to check if your AVG Antivirus for Mac is up to date.
1) In the menu bar, click on the AVG AntiVirus
2) Select Check for updates. The current update status (updated/outdated) is displayed in the top right corner of the main page of AVG AntiVirus, so there two variants that you might see.
3) Click the Update Now button to launch the update process.

To find out the date of the last successful update proceed with the following:
1. In the task bar, click on the AVG Antivirus Menu.
2. Select About AVG AntiVirus.
3. Look for the line Last update.

If it shows 18.2 version installed then check for websites issue and keep us informed about the status.
Best regards,
Alok.

Same issue. Problem happened after update. Cannot use firefox with web protection turned on. This is an avg problem and not a cert issue.

I tried to upload 2 images - Insecure connection and my system info but alas, neither seem to have been uploaded.

Win 10 Home Edition, Mozilla Firefox version 59.0.2, AVG 180430-0 (Microsoft Edge has no issues). The problem occurs occasionally on all https sites. For some reason restarting the PC resolves it but only temporarily. I have attempted to re-install both the browser and AVG and the issue still persists.

In case you need a bit more info on the problem:

"The owner of www.facebook.com has configured their web site improperly. To protect your information from being stolen, Firefox has not connected to this web site.
This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate."

One thing that I found useful is allowing AVG Web/Mail Shield Root to identify web sites and mail users from the settings in Firefox but that only fixes some of the websites.

I am having the same issue with Firefox. Completely unusable on any HTTPS site.

AVG personal for OSX.  As of today, after a definition update, AVG Web Shield began blocking ALL https sites that I attempted to visit and I am not allowed to accept the certificate.  Gmail/google, amazon, even avg itself.  It appears to be an issue with AVG inspecting the cert chain.  This is rendering my browser unusable.  Therefore web shield is deactivated until this is resolved.

www.avg.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER

Damyan, thank you for the detailed information.

To analyse this issue further, I have sent you an email to get connected with our advanced support. Follow the steps from the email and the concerned team will fix this firewall issue for you.

Either turn off web shield or switch to Chrome.

Hi Tony,

Yes, we do have the AVG Logs and we've already forwarded them to our Senior Team to analyze the issue. Please be patient while our Senior Team finds a resolution for the issue.

Bhuvaneswari Vairavan,

I've already uninstalled and reinstalled AVG Antivirus, that didn't help. The problem started for me, and many other users, when we recivied updates to version 18.2 over the last few days. Something within that package needs to be corrected on your end. I'm running the latest version of Firefox, 58.0.2.

Damyan,
Are you receiving this error on Windows or Mac? Let us know the name & version of browser you have used and AVG version to check and assist you further.

Hello,

I understand this must be upsetting and forwarded the concern to senior team for getting suggestion.
Keep checking this post to know about the status. Your patience is much appreciated.

Hello George,
We can certainly take a look into this. May I know if you're using AVG Free Antivirus or AVG Internet Security for your computer protection?
Regards,
Alok.

George,
Thank you for the confirmation. Please uninstall and reinstall AVG webshield component by going to AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->Component->down arrow next to Webshield component->Uninstall component. Then reinstall it and check if it works.
