WebCam interference

Hello Bruce,

I understand your concern.

Please disable AVG temporarily on your computer and check if you are able to access Webcam without any problem.

To disable AVG temporarily, please right click on the AVG icon present at the bottom right corner of your desktop(System Tray) and you can see a scroll bar to "Disable Protection". Please click on the same to disable AVG Protection and check if you are able to access this application.

My reply to customer service: I do not have AVG Internet Security—I have AVG free. The setting (Smart Mode) that you suggest does not exist in AVG free.

Original question:
How do I remove avgSnx from my webcam's driver stack?
According to a response I received as to why my webcam doesn't work with Skype, this is the information I received:
AVG filter, avgSnx, is inserted into webcam's driver stack.
Stack: \FileSystem\avgSnx,\FileSystem\avgSnx,\Driver\ksthunk,\Driver\usbvideo,\Driver\ACPI,\Driver\usbccgp
This means that your webcam might be blocked by AVG webcam protection service.

Hello Bruce,

Yes, in the latest version, we have implemented webcam protection feature which has three modes (Smart, Strict and No mercy).
Check whether "Smart mode" is enabled.
Open AVG Internet Security interface.
Click on "Privacy" and select "Open" of webcam protection.
Select "smart mode" from it and if your webcam application is blocked, select "blocked list" and remove it from the list.
Add it to allowed list and check whether the issue persist.
Keep me informed about the status.

Hi,
Yes the camera appears to be working in Skype with AVG turned off.
Bruce

Thanks, Alok, I'll try disabling component one at a time over the next while to see if that works.

Thank you for the confirmation Bruce,
Please disable AVG Free Antivirus component one by one (open AVG Free Antivirus > Menu > settings > components) and check which AVG component is blocking Web Camera.
Best regards,
Alok.
