Webpage Errors Caused by AVG VPN and Internet Security

Please clarify the exact AVG program that was removed to fix the issue.

I have internet security and VPN set up on my laptop.
My wife and daughter loaded it onto their laptops, ipads and mobile phones last week and have been having issues ever since.
They were unable to load pages from Spotlight, KMart, Target, Officeworks and a few others and kept on getting error messages. 
There were no issue before installing AVG so after checking the settings AVG was removed solving the issues completely!
Can you please tell me why this occurred and what I can do to solve it as I bought these with the intention of protecting all of our devices!
