Hello,

We are glad to help you.
How do you confirm that AVG web shield blocking the access?
Could you please share the screenshot (http://https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=AVG-Create-screenshot) of the issue page which shows it blocked by AVG Anti-virus
Also, please try to update AVG Anti-virus and check it.

hello, thanks for responding

upon further testing, here’s what I have found:

1) frustratingly, problem occurrence seems a bit random - not able find a sequence of event that consistently recreates problem

2) most often, I can recreate problem by doing DDG search initially in “Images” tab, then switching to “All” tab, which shows no result.

3) When this occurs, subsequent DDG search from “All” tab also fails. Once it starts happening, it continues through several subsequent searches

4) Also, inputting search items directly into in DDG webpage, versus into Safari URL Bar (with DDG set as Safari default search) sometimes causes problem, sometimes resolves it - can’t find consistent pattern

5) regardless of what triggers the problem, whenever it occurs, disconnecting AVG Security proxy in SystemPreferences / Network  immediately resolves problem

6)  When the DDG problem troubles me,  for an alternative privacy-friendly search I can choose Startpage.com, but this option cannot be set in safari as default, accessible from top bar.

7) Anyway, not exactly a fatal error, but rather inconvenient, so would love to find a solution. Also, just curious what’s going on.

8) I did notice that my Big Sur install one avast system extension loaded. Not sure if this came with my recent AVG install, or is a leftover from Avast, which I uninstalled a year or two ago (tried malwarebytes for a while, then recently dumped that in favor of latest AVG.

any ideas?

AVG Web Shield is blocking "All" results of duckduckgo search, but does not block other DDG search results, ("Images", "News", etc), this despite having exceptions for duckduckgo.com (HTTP and HTTPS) in AVG prefs.

(macOS 11.5.2, Safari 14.1.2, AVG 19.9)
