When I try to open AVG I get a message saying "Well, this is embarrassing. We've run into a problem. Please restart your computer and try again. If the issue persists try to reinstall the app or contact our Customer Care team for help."
I have tried restarting the computer multiple times and still get the same messaging. I have also gone to add/remove programs > Change > Repair. The repair processed seemed to run through completion, but I still get the same "Well, this is embarrassing…" message and am unable to open AVG
I have just had this problem myself and I used the repair thread mentioned by Bhuvaneswari Vairavan above which has worked.
I do have a query though. I just realised there was something wrong when I noticed the AVG tray icon had disappeared and then I tried to open AVG from within "All Programs" and got the warning message posted by Jonathon D, so my question is, does this mean that I haven't been protected by AVG during the corruption period?
Hello Jonathan,
I apologize for the inconvenience. This happens when the AVG Program gets corrupted while trying to update. Please repair AVG Antivirus http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-repair-AVG from the control panel and then check the status.
If you still face any issue, please contact us with the screenshot http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-create-a-screenshot to assist further.

Hello Lynn,
I am happy to hear that the issue got resolved. Please be informed that the embarrassing message from AVG indicates that the user interface is corrupted, however, the security program in the background still works fine without any issue. So, even though you got this error message, your computer will still be completely protected by AVG.
