Good luck updating from 5315 to 5557 (you may need it). If you are running AVG Free 2015, database updates will occur at the same fixed times as they did with 5315. There is absolutely nothing "automatic" about them.

The new main GUI is a definite improvement over AVG 2013 and  2014.

I am actually getting at least 3 automatic database updates per day. Even with AVG 2014 Free, you got 2 database updates per day unless you disabled program updates, in which case it dropped to 1 per day (but of course you could click on "Protection is up-to-date" at an time). I'm so pleased with the new version that I changed my avatar. Sounds like there might be some issues with Windows 8.1, but that isn't my OS.

Would it be advisable for users of AVG 2014 Free to disable AVG Self Protection immediately before this program update? Perhaps that would avoid the issue described in a recent article (see link). You will have some unhappy users if they have to edit the registry to complete the upate!
