Elizabeth, The link that you've referenced is from the SMB forum area. Are you using AVG Business Edition?. As most of the modern email providers use STARTTLS for their smtp-servers, I really would like to use the AVG email-scanner also for this purpose.
The only post concerning STARTTLS are from 2012 [AVG Support Community | User Forum for All AVG products] and quite vague.
