When VPN is switched on, my wireless printer does not work

Open AVG Secure VPN and go to ☰ Menu ▸ Settings  ▸General  ▸Local device access  ▸ Enable Local device access when using VPN(This allows access to local devices such as printers and shared drive.

When VPN is switched on, my wireless printer does not work. I spent hours (days) trying to ininstall my printer before I worked out VPN was the problem.  Is there a way around this?
