I have requested a refund but accidentally provided the serial nr twice instead of including the number of the transaction id which I have with me now but what can I do to help AVG find the correct details so that I do receive the refund that i am entitled to?

However, we see that the recent charge was disputed by the "PayPal". You need to contact "PayPal", cancel this dispute and attach the confirmation email to the refund. They will check the same and proceed with the refund.
The charge will show as debited even if it is in disputed state. You need to contact "PayPal" to cancel this dispute.
