I realise this is no help for anyone who is using the paid version of malwarebytes, but if like me you have the free version and accidently upgraded to a free trial which caused AVG free to go into passive mode, you can revert to the free malwareytes in their settings, my account, deactive premium trial.
Unacceptable!!! I have been running the Paid versions of AVG Internet Security and Malwarebytes Preimum for sever years without problems. It was AVG's last update that caused the Passive problem. AVG NEEDS TO FIX IT.
Lawrence,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concern.
After recent AVG update, a customer will receive notification as "AVG is in passive mode" when there is another security program installed on your PC.
This update was released to inform customers about the necessity of having a single antivirus program on their computer.
It is not recommended to have two security program running on the same PC which might cause various issues for the PC at any time.
We do not want our customers to face any difficulties because of these conflicts with an antivirus program. To resolve the issue, we suggest you remove Malwarebytes from your computer.
Also, refer to https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlName=Applications-in-conflict-with-AVG
When will the problem with having Malwarebyte and AVG be resolved?
I do use AVG and have done so for several years. Overall, it's a good anti-virus program. Malwarebytes has desireable qualities too, and has caught things that apparently got past AVG. For whatever reasons, the recent AVG update is apparently incompatible with MB, for no good reason that I can ascertain. MB is not sold as an anti-virus program. The idea of "defense in depth" appeals to me, and I can't understand why AVG suddenly engineered an update that invalidates MB.
Fred, I understand the inconvenience.

The conflicting between antivirus program is the same from the beginning but it is our duty to inform customers about the seriousness of the issues that would occur, hence we decided to highlight customers through this update.
From now, it is not possible to run AVG Antivirus free in active mode when Malwarebytes is installed on your PC but I assure you that AVG Antivirus protection will be more advanced and will provide best protection for your PC.
Lawrence,
I certainly understand your concern. Please follow the steps below to try and resolve the issue.
1. Open AVG -> Menu -> Settings -> Update -> update virus definitions and program definitions.
2. Restart PC and check status of AVG components. If components are still not active, click on “Fix” button at upper right corner of AVG window.
3. If fix button is not available or does not work, go to Settings of AVG and now choose Troubleshooting -> Passive mode -> and deactivate it (move the slider into green color).
4. Restart the PC and check the situation.
This at best a weak answer, especially for those of us who have the full (paid) version of Malwarebytes. If the free version will work with AVG, why not the paid version?
@ Fred Park
Fred, For additional system scanning try using Malwarebytes Free version i.e. Non real-time residential protection.

Hello Lawrence,
I understand how difficult this is for you. Unfortunately, we do not have a fix for this, to move AVG out of passive mode you need to uninstall malwarebytes from your computer. Please do not worry, AVG does include "Ransomware protection" and other new features which will provide additional protection for your computer.
Fred, since free version of Malwarebytes doesn't have "realtime shield" the suggestion was given by Alan.
However, it is not recommended to run even the free version of Malwarebytes with AVG now.
If you would like to use AVG then we can assist further.
@ Fred Park
Fred, Just for your info Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (paid for version) has always been listed as potentially a conflicting prog with AVG. Have a look @ this AVG article (http://avgclick.me/ConflictingApps) [Scroll Down… Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware].

This does not solve anything. Until today's update AVG and Malwarebytes were compatible. AVG needs to fix this, since MB catches things that AVG misses.
