Why can't I install the free version of AVG onto my MacBook?

I tried to install AVG Internet Security for Mac on my MacBook but it failed to install and came up with an error message several times! I already have AVG Internet Security on my other laptop using Microsoft and recently updated it. I have the version that I can use on any device. Could it be the AVG is not compatible with my MacBook because it is not the latest software? I also tried to install the free version of AVG on my MacBook but the same thing happened telling me it is unable to install without giving me a valid reason why.
