Why does AVG Internet Security turn off its firewall for a long time each time I start up my computer?

Each time I start up my computer, it takes maybe two minutes.  At the end of that time, most of the system is running (according to icons on the menu bar) but the Internet connection is not, and AVG starts but displays a pop-up saying that its firewall (and sometimes Identity Protection) are disabled.  Windows also displays a warning balloon about the firewall being disabled.

This only changes after I start up my mail program (Mozilla Thunderbird) and it's been running for maybe 10 minutes.  Only then – well after my mail has been downloaded – does AVG tell me it has started its firewall.

I've tried waiting for the firewall to come up before starting Thunderbird, but it doesn't help.  The firewall will never come up until about 10 minutes after I've connected to the Internet, if not by running Thunderbird then by visiting a web site.

How do I make AVG start its firewall before I connect to the net?

Ben, If you have the same issue as user John Galt just provide the info that's required by Zbynek | AVG Employee (AVG Technologies) in the last posting.

ZBYNEK  has NO idea.  The information was excellent.  Why doesn't AVG get some GOOD programmers???

I'm running Windows and using AT&T DSL service, if it makes any difference.
