Why does enabling enhanced firewall block hotspot traffic?

Hi Ian,

We'll certainly help you with this.

Hi Sarath.

Thanks for replying.

If it helps, my internet is wifi and is similar to that of a hotel, that is, I log in with a username and password first, before I get connectivity.  So I log in on my PC, turn on the hotspot, and, with the AVG firewall turned on it connects, but no traffic (so nothing on the AppleTV works - PC has internet just fine).

When I turn off the AVG firewall on my PC then the AppleTV gets the IP address, DNS etc. and internet works fine on both the AppleTV and my PC.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

I have AVG Internet Security installed on my Windows 10 PC.  I share that wifi connection with my AppleTV using Windows 10's hotspot feature.  When I enable enhanced firewall protection in AVG, and the hotspot is enabled, the AppleTV can connect to the hotspot but can't send or receive any traffic (nor can it get IP address/DNS etc.).

When I turn off the enhanced firewall option in AVG it works fine - how can I enable this feature and get internet traffic between my PC and AppleTV via hotspot?

Thanks.
Ian, I'd request you to enabled Internet sharing mode in AVG Firewall settings and check if that helps.
Open AVG Internet Security, click Menu -> Settings -> Full Protection -> Enhanced Firewall.
Then tick 'Enable Internet Sharing mode' and click OK.
