OK Janet, I think you probably mis-read. The firewall won't be active. That actually only applies to AVG Internet Security which is not free except for a 30 day trial. You've confirmed you're using AVG Free. The message you originally received was to update to AVG 2015 as per my 1st posting, If you see the message again please just read thro' the article link & follow the instructions.

I keep getting a message telling me AVG needs to be updated, it used to do it automatically, why has it stopped?
I use Windows 7, the free version of AVG, and Google Chrome

Janet, On the User Interface very bottom LH corner what does it show?. 2014 build ***. Alternatively what does this show?.. User Interface -> Support -> Product or Program.
