I am almost sure that I unchecked all the prompts for additional software, because I do that with any new application I install, but I might be wrong in that, because some time has passed since I first installed AVG. In case it was not clear in my first post, this erratic installment of the AVG Secure Browser happened after an update and not after I first installed AVG Antivirus, I didn't know the browser even existed the day before yesterday. Thanks one more time for the quick responses.
Just found this thread over a year since the first post and it is still happening.
Finished sorting out a problem with my very elderly mother-in-law's computer just over a week ago. Although not the main problem, the sudden appearence of the secure browser has caused her distress. This is someone who uses a computer for fairly basic tasks - accidentally changing the order of the icons pinned to the task bar causes confusion for example. The addition of this icon has caused confusion.
Now, I've been approached by another relative because "this new browser has just appeared on my computer and I don't know what to do".
AVG - stop doing this by default. Just because someone, somewhere thinks it might be a good idea, it causes unnecessary anxiety for some users.
Hi,
We certainly understand your concern.
Let me explain you clearly.
You might have received a prompt to install AVG Secure Browser and the option will be checked by default. If you haven't unchecked this option, AVG Secure Browser will get installed.
You would have received a screen after the AVG Protection updates "AVG has been updated" with an option to uncheck the box.
However, we request you to submit the feedback regarding this product from AVG Internet Security/AntiVirus interface and it will reach the concerned team.
To submit the feedback, open AVG Internet Security/AntiVirus free, click on "Menu->About->Submit Feedback".
Thank you for understanding.
Hi Kostis,
I appreciate your valuable feedback.
However this is most probably caused from your end (update of SafeZone, accept via some 3rd party application etc.)
Please uninstall (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=uninstalling-avg-secure-browser) AVG Secure Browser and if it happens again, feel free to contact us back for further help.
Thank you for your understanding.

AVG Secure Browser sets itself as default, and configures itself to start when the computer starts, every time there is an update to AVG. This is extremely annoying. Please give us the courtesy of choosing which browser we want to be our default, and what we do or do not want to start every time the computer starts. We are not children. Thanks.
It is still happening!!! Last night my avg updated and this morning my computer had done a restart. The AVG screen was up with the appropriate checks. I unchecked the default browser box. Did not matter, it became my default browser. What really upset me, is it made itself default for .pdf files downloaded too!
I would have been happy to keep the browser as an optoin, but when if forces its way into my computer like it has, I will try uninstalling it as suggested, and it won't be reinstalled.
Hello Kostis,
We realize that this must be upsetting and this isn't the expected behavior with AVG secure browser.
Could you let us know whether it got installed after a manual or automatic update of AVG Antivirus free?
Kostis, we apologize for the difficulty you are facing with the product.
It is not the expected behavior. We have escalated the case to our senior team. We will inform you once we get a reply from them.
Exactly the same problem here, this browser is toxic, Uninstalled it X2 came back both times.
exactly what is going on please?
It is now July 2020 and this behaviour is still happening. It's not on AVG! Your product is acting like malware - the very software you claim to protect us against. It is making me want to look for an alternative to your software
Today my AVG free antivirus got updated and all of a sudden AVG Secure Browser became the default browser, without any question. I even had a problem changing the default back to chrome, as the settings window chrashed twice, before I managed to remove it, AVG Secure Browser was behaving as malware. Who was the genius behind this aggresive method of promoting your new product? Give him my congratulations.
