Why must AVG Antivirus use Dedicated Graphics?

I noticed I can't use my integrated board graphics when AVG AntiVirus is running in the background. Why must it use the dedicated graphics of my MacBook Pro? Why can't the user turn this behavior off? The only way to use my integrated graphics now is to quit AVG.

Hello Mik,

We regret for the inconvenience caused.

Are you getting any error message while you try insert the Graphic card?

If so, please provide us the screenshot of the error message.

I don't see any trace of "behavior shield" component of AVG AntiVirus v19 .

Hi Mik,

Thank you for explaining your concern with us. Let us work together to resolve the issue.
Could you please turn off Behavior shield component of AVG AntiVirus and verify the status?

Thank you for the information.

I understand that you are able to access the graphic card while the AVG is turned off. In order to find the root cause of the issue, we have to analyse which component is blocking the access to the graphic card.

So, we request you to turn off each component individually and try to access it again.

We appreciate your efforts.

:-)

The card is built-in. What happened was that I tried to change to integrated with the app "gfxCardStatus", which it couldn't do as "AVG AntiVirus" was using the dedicated built-in graphics card. Only when I turned off AVG could I switch to integrated. I'm just surprised AVG needs to use the dedicated card. Maybe it's a OpenGL thing?

I potentially solved this by using Steve Schowe's fork of gfxCardStatus (https://github.com/steveschow/gfxCardStatus/releases) (GitHub) that "will default to integrated-only mode" if possible.
I'm still somewhat puzzled as this would seem to be new behaviour.
